Promise of central position for disability in Ireland's Development Aid

In 2011, the Irish government announced a review of their White Paper on Development Aid. IDDC member CBM Ireland took up the chairing role of a Task Force asking for the effective inclusion of persons with disabilities. Their submission on inclusive development was circulated to all Members of the Parliament's Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs in April 2012. 

Consequently, the majority of Committee Members raised disability as a priority for Ireland's forthcoming development. The Minister was in attendance and his concluding remarks were that disability would be central to the next policy and also that Ireland will work to get its "house in order" for ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and particularly the development aid perspective. This is a great commitment and was also one of CBM Ireland's key questions at their event in October 2011.

As part of their advocacy work to promote the effective inclusion of persons with disabilities CBM Ireland also started a series of blogs. The blogs feature guest writers from different sections of Irish society and international organisations discussing why inclusive development is important for development aid policies and for all work carried out under the guise of international development.
