EC Project: 2010-2012

Making Development Inclusive

"Making Development Inclusive" is a project financed by EuropeAid, the European Commission's office for managing external aid programmes. This project is a sequel to "Disability mainstreaming in Development Co-operation".

With the aim of breaking the recurring poverty-disability-poverty cycle, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) was passed in May 2008 as the result of global campaigning for the rights and opportunities of persons with disabilities.

Article 32 of the Convention states inter alia, that international cooperation, including international development programmes, should be inclusive of, and accessible to, persons with disabilities. With its signature by the European Union and its ratification by EU Member States, there is a greatly increased need for specialist information about the implementation and monitoring of Article 32.

Through this project, IDDC will be strengthened as a hub for the provision of expertise on mainstreaming disability in development to national and international state and non-state actors. The project will enable IDDC to increase its promotion of consistent understanding and implementation of the UNCRPD with a range of target groups across member states.

The project runs from January 2010 until December 2012.

The Lead Applicant for the project is IDDC Member Leonard Cheshire Disability, and in addition to IDDC, many IDDC members are also project parnters:
