Promoting Inclusive Millennium Development Goals (Spring 2010)

In the context of our work towards 'Inclusive Millennium Development Goals' IDDC worked successfully with CONCORD (European NGO confederation for Relief and Development) to ensure that its call to the EU made strong statements on the need for better inclusion of persons with disabilities in efforts to achieve the MDGs. Our advocacy work resulted in the EU taking a strong position on the MDGs in the June Council Conclusions that included, for the first time at such high political level, references to persons with disabilities.

The IDDC EU Task Group worked to ensure that the EU takes a pro-active role in the 2010 MDG review. IDDC members managed to mobilise key EU Member States. As a result, the final outcome document of the UN Summit in the MDG Review contains quite a few references to disability inclusion.
