About the Task Group - HIV&AIDS and Disability |
|
Our Vision All people should have the right to live and work in a health promoting environment, and have access to affordable health services; we believe that persons with disabilities in particular need to be fully involved with all health planning to ensure they have access on an equal basis with other people.
Our current mission (April 2009) For the coming three years we will focus specifically on access to HIV&AIDS services and SRHR. This is crucial because: - HIV&AIDS is having a devastating effect on the lives of persons with disabilities.
- There are broad global processes to fight HIV&AIDS and we believe persons with disabilities should be included.
- We feel that the reasons persons with disabilities are excluded from action to tackle HIV&AIDS are similar to the reasons persons with disabilities are excluded from healthcare, and from society in general.
- We can learn about access to healthcare for all, from working in collaboration on HIV&AIDS.
Goals of the Task Group - why is action together more effective than action as individual organizations? - To conduct advocacy together, experiences from national level and Southern partners will feed into the advocacy we do at international level; advocacy experiences from the international level will feed into the national advocacy efforts.
- To share instructive experiences and practices.
- To share information and resources, including availability of human resources for e.g consultancy.
- To ensure representation of IDDC in HIV&AIDS meetings in Regional (EU) and/or International Fora.
We hope that our web-page is useful and informative, and will serve to raise awareness amongst IDDC members and all development actors on HIV&AIDS and Disability, in addition to share the work being done by IDDC partners.
