About the Task Group - UN

IDDC’s UN Task Group is focused on advocacy towards the UN institutions. Its main aim is to ensure that the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), in particular articles related to international development co-operation (such as Article 32) is implemented. The Task Group also actively participated in the elaboration process of the UNCRPD.

The UN Task Group has a specific focus on targeting UN institutions to include disability and development issues in key global initiatives, for example, spearheading a campaign to make the Millennium Development Goals inclusive of persons with disabilities and also pushing for greater recognition of the need to mainstream disability and the UNCRPD into international development mechanisms. For more detail on the UN Task Group’s MDG campaign, please see www.IncludeEverybody.org

The main objectives of the Task Group are:

1) Monitor and advocate on the implementation of the CRPD, with particular focus to those articles related to international development;

2) Co-ordinate IDDC’s links with UN bodies and to link to the work of other task Groups with UN bodies;

3) Develop IDDC’s reputation among key UN stakeholders as a centre of excellence on disability and development and lobby for UN development measures to be truly inclusive of persons with disabilities and incorporate the UNCRPD.
