Partners of the Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities will come together for the first time on 14 - 15 September to discuss the issues on children with disabilities in development. IDDC, one of the global disability network partners, will be present as speakers and coordinators in several sessions. The Partnership will call upon the child rights movement to increase attention to the needs of children with disabilities and likewise for the disability movement to pay more attention to the needs of children.

Microfinance and Financial Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities New York, 12 September 2012; 18:15 - 19:30; find livestreaming links here

The Center for Financial Inclusion at ACCION in conjunction with UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and Global Partnership for Disability and Development (GPDD) are organising a side event on 12 September 2012 during the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD. The panelists, featuring several IDDC members and partners, will examine the important role microfinance can play in empowering persons with disabilities to access financial services, including loans, grants and savings. Due to the many barriers persons with disabilities face in accessing employment they are among the most marginalized and poorest in every society.

The Making it Work International Coordination Team, facilitated by IDDC member Handicap International Federation, is launching their new website at the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD. This includes a searchable database with over 100 good practice case studies on disability inclusion. IDDC member Leonard Cheshire Disability is organising a side event on 13 September 2012 during the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD. The event will focus on the challenges that women with disabilities face in education and employment and what can be done to improve the situation. UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) are holding a launch event of their new discussion paper entitled 'Early childhood development and disability' during the Conference of State Parties to the CRPD. The paper aims to stimulate discussion, planning and action on issues related to disability, early childhood development and early childhood intervention.
