DCDD organises international conference on Millennium Development Goals

Image of the DCDD logo - © DCDD On 2 December 2009 IDDC member DCDD is organising the conference 'Towards realisation of the MDGs for women and girls with a disability' in Amstelveen (the Netherlands). This event aims to inspire and support governments, NGOs, and individuals in the field of development, disability and gender to ensure their policies and activities will also benefit women and girls with a disability and also gives the opportunity to exchange experiences.

 

AIFO Stands Up Against Poverty in Bologna

Image of people coming together in Bologna to Stand Up Against Poverty - © AIFO IDDC member AIFO participated in the Stand Up Against Poverty Campaign on 17 October 2009 that brought together 3055 people in Bologna to remind governments about their promises to fight poverty and climate change. Great appreciation goes to the many organisations, volunteers, musicians and the Bologna Province and City that made this great event possible.

 

Launch 'Capacity Building in Network Organisations' on 25 November

Image of a town play about AIDS in Zambia - © VSO the Netherlands IDDC member VSO will launch its new publication Capacity Building in Network Organisations - experiences from and practical guidelines for HIV and other networks on 25 November 2009 at their office in Utrecht (the Netherlands). Amongst the speakers will be Cookie Edwards, Director KwaZuluNatal Network on Violence Against Women.

IDDC present at second Conference of State Parties in New York

The main theme was 'Legislative Measures to Implement the Convention'. Amongst the panelists was Thomas Stelzer, Assistant Secretary General DESA, who also attendend the IDDC side event in New York in February 2009.

Members of the European Parliament Call for All European Funded Projects to be Accessible for Persons with Disabilities

Briefing on inclusive development in the European Parliament, Brussels 29 September 2009.

Image of Catherine (IDDC) speaking and Lovasy from Hungarian Deaf Association - © IDDC At a briefing in the European Parliament, MEPs committed themselves to using the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to reinforce the efforts of the EP to improve the situation of persons with disabilities in developing countries.

This briefing for new and more experienced MEPs, was the chance for an open discussion with IDDC members on inclusive development, while IDDC partners learnt more about what role the European Parliament can play in supporting the rights of people with disabilities.
