Our purpose

Through our actions and activities, guided by our core values and the principles of both the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we aim at promoting inclusive development internationally, with a special focus on the full and effective enjoyment of human rights by all persons with disabilities living in economically poor communities in lower and middle-income countries.

Our objectives

  • Promote the inclusion of the disability dimension, as well as appropriate disability-specific approaches, in all development policy and practice.
  • Improve the practice of the member organisations by collaborating and sharing experience about policy and practice.
  • Support the exchange of information and knowledge about inclusive development, especially between people and organisations in economically poorer countries, by the wide distribution of information.

Advocacy

Advocate for implementation of the CRPD and other relevant treaties and disability inclusion in Agenda 2030 (SDGs) and the Agenda for Humanity

  • Official evidence and accountability mechanisms are used to monitor disability inclusion in international cooperation

Enhanced Collaboration

Facilitate coordination of action (including in the Global South) and sharing of resources among members and allies for inclusive development and humanitarian action.

  • A collaborative and accessible sharing mechanism is in place to ensure that thematic exchange, joint proposals and relevant information are made available on the collaborative platform.
  • IDDC members are collaborating at the regional and country level.
  • Direct perspectives and engagement from people from the global south are included in IDDC activities.
  • Improved coordination within IDDC and between IDDC and IDA.
  • Partnerships established with mainstream civil society actors to achieve inclusive

Capacity Development

Support development of civil society capacities to promote, implement and measure policies and practices for inclusive development and humanitarian action

  • BRIDGE CRPD-SDG training is successfully implemented in agreed countries with active support and engagement of IDDC members, in partnership with IDA.
  • BRIDGE CRPD-SDG training national follow-up strategy is developed and monitored.
  • IDDC facilitates members to develop their capabilities and knowledge on areas of common interest through training opportunities, information sharing mechanisms and other channels.
  • IDDC provides opportunities for non-member civil society organisations to participate in and learn about disability inclusive development and humanitarian action.

Organisational Development

Ensure that the network is appropriately resourced with the appropriate working mechanisms, governance and Secretariat

  • The network has a clear sense of direction and is implementing its strategic vision with clear accountability and review mechanisms in place.
  • IDDC’s Brand is clearly established and communicated.
  • Internal communications function effectively within and between the network.
  • IDDC supports a secretariat of sufficient capacity to meet the requirements of the network.
  • IDDC members are actively engaged in the network according to their organisational mandate, capacity and resources.
  • Appropriate membership of IDDC to deliver on its strategy.
  • IDDC is financially secure and able to meet its core costs
