The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) is a global alliance of about 150 civil society organisations, professional bodies and corporates promoting eye health through advocacy, knowledge and partnerships.

IAPB’s mission is a world in which everyone has access to the best possible standard of eye health without being exposed to financial hardship, where no one is needlessly vision impaired, and where those with irreversible vision loss achieve their full potential.

Established in 1975 as a coordinating, umbrella organisation to lead international efforts in blindness prevention activities, its first major achievement was to promote the establishment of a WHO programme for prevention of blindness, with which it has remained strongly linked, and which is now embodied in the global initiative, VISION 2020: The Right to Sight.

While a number of IAPB members focus also on the inclusion and rehabilitation of persons with vision loss, IAPB as an alliance amplifies the messaging of the disability rights sector on the inclusion of people with vision impairment, recognising the primacy of disability rights networks.
