About the exhibition ‘Together for Inclusion’
The exhibition “Together for Inclusion” presents the ten winning photos from the photo competition launched during the 2017 European Disability and Development Week – showcases men, women and children with disabilities enjoying their right to education, work, culture, leisure, friendship and community. The picture of Aicha and her friends was awarded first prize: this “snapshot” taken by photographer Marta Moreiras depicts a moment of spontaneous happiness and shows inclusion at its most natural!
“Together for Inclusion” aims to raise awareness about inclusive development; and to break down barriers caused by discriminatory attitudes towards people with disabilities by highlighting inclusive responses to the challenges they face from a positive perspective, following a human rights-based approach, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Agenda 2030.
As full citizens, people with disabilities have equal rights and are entitled to dignity, equal treatment, independent living and full participation in society. People with disabilities represent around one-sixth of the EU’s overall working-age population, but their employment rate is comparatively low. Equal access to quality education and lifelong learning enables people with disabilities to participate fully in society and improve their quality of life.
The European Disability and Development Week is an annual series of events promoting the International Day of the Rights of Person with Disabilities, December 3rd. It is organised by the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC), a global consortium of disability and development non-governmental organisations (NGOs), mainstream development NGOs and representative organisations of persons with disabilities (DPOs) promoting rights-based disability-inclusive development and humanitarian action in over 150 countries.
About AidEx 2019
Now in its 9th year, AidEx is established as the leading platform for the international aid and development community to come together and improve the efficiency of aid.
AidEx is a two day event, which encompasses a conference, exhibition, meeting areas, awards and workshops. Its fundamental aim is to engage the sector at every level and provide a forum for aid & development professionals to meet, source, supply and learn. AidEx was created to help the international aid and development community engage the private sector in a neutral setting, drive innovation and support the ever-growing need for emergency aid and development programmes.
The 2019 conference theme will tackle: The importance of inclusiveness to global progress – is the aid and development sector doing enough?
