Promoting health equity for persons with disabilities within action on climate change and health

Climate change presents a fundamental threat to human health. But its effects are not felt equally. Low-income countries and small island developing states endure the harshest impacts, while across all settings, poorer and more vulnerable communities face a disproportionate burden from climate change and its health impacts – including persons with disabilities.

In response to the adoption of the first World Health Assembly resolution on climate change and health in May 2024, this briefing provides information on the intersection of health equity for persons with disabilities and climate change, and outlines key calls for Member States and the World Health Organization to consider as they develop a WHO global plan of action on climate change and health.
