COVID-19 Disability Rights Monitor
The Coronavirus is a virus that appeared in 2019, we call it COVID-19.
It spread easily between people and all around the world, it was pandemic.
COVID-19 affected many the people, especially people with disabilities.
Lot of people got very sick, hospitals were full and there was no cure. Many countries decided to implement lockdowns.
This means that people were not allowed to leave their home.
The disease and the lockdowns have had very hard consequences on the lives of persons with disabilities and on their rights.
7 organisations have decided to work together:
- IDDC
- The Validity Foundation – Mental Disability Advocacy Centre
- The European Network on Independent Living
- The International Disability Alliance
- Disability Rights International
- The Disability Rights Unit at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria
- The Disability Rights Fund and the Disability Rights Advocacy Fund
Together we created the COVID-19 Disability Rights Monitor.
With this programme, we asked persons with disabilities how they felt during the lockdowns.
We also asked governments what they did to make sure that the rights of persons with disabilities were respected.
We asked our questions by using 2 surveys.
These surveys were important to know all the problems
that persons with disabilities faced during the COVID pandemic.
The results of the surveys showed how many countries
have protected the rights of persons with disabilities.
