UNPRPD COVID-19 Programme
The Coronavirus is a virus that appeared in 2019, we call it COVID-19.
It spread easily between people and all around the world, we call it a pandemic.
COVID-19 affected many the people, especially people with disabilities.
Lot of people got very sick, hospitals were full and there was no cure.
Many countries decided to have lockdowns. This means that people were not allowed to leave their home.
The disease and the lockdowns have made the lives of persons with disabilities much harder and affected their rights.
In 2021, some organisations of persons with disabilities, United Nations agencies
and civil society organisations created a plan to help people with disabilities.
The plan was called the UNPRD COVID-19 Programme.
UNPRPD stands for United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The UNPRPD is now called the Global Disability Fund.
The UNPRD COVID-19 Programme worked closely with more than 20 countries.
